Unlike some cultural guides, or ‘best practices’ for traveling businessmen, this analysis attempts to go one step further in assessing how culture influences business relationships and organizations in the United Arab Emirates. It is certainly useful to remind a novice to the region that it is not polite to smoke in public during Ramadan. However, we need to understand why - if we know why the native of Dubai seems overly persistent in negotiation, then we can adjust in order to succeed in communicating with him, as many employees of multinational firms have learned to do.
